According to Pausanias, Demeter had a sacred cave at Phigaleia. "Every year the people set upon an altar outside the cave samples of all the raw materials produced in their land, including grapes, honeycombs, and wool, and poured olive oil over these in an attempt to appease the disgruntled goddess" (Ancient Greek Cults: A Guide by Jennifer Larson).
